OPINION:
Ducks fans never know which team they're going to get. You would think it would be fairly simple being that it's really only one team, but these Ducks have a twin. An evil twin. Recently, we haven't seen this evil twin, but it came to play tonight in place of the good twin. Now back to reality. They played like they were hung-over. A complete 180 from the performance they gave against the Blues. I don't know what it is. It could be that they were on the road, their natural enemy this year. It couldn't be fatigue, there'd be no reason for it, Phoenix is a mere hour away by plane, so it's not jet lag. It was just uninspired hockey. The kind the Ducks evil twin likes to play.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"What I told the team is we weren't getting involved," Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said. "We weren't offering all that much resistance."

"And the first line I juggled got scored on," Carlyle said. "It was just one of those nights. I don't have an explanation for it but we have to find one in a hurry."

GAME NOTES:
Anaheim outscored its opponents 14-4 in the three games before Saturday. ... Phoenix RW Radim Vrbata had two assists to give him 300 points in his career. Coyotes C Vernon Fiddler went to the dressing room after a fight with Beleskey less than 2 minutes into the third. Yandle slashed Perry across the right hand in front of the Phoenix net, and Perry responded moments later by shoving Yandle to the ice immediately before Fiddler and Beleskey squared off. ... Yandle took stitches to his left eye after being high-sticked by Selanne in the first period.

OPINION:
After Coach Carlyle held one-on-one meetings with the players yesterday, they showed in the 1st period tonight that the message was received loud and clear. The first period was all the Ducks needed to clinch the 3-1 victory over the Coyotes. In the 2nd period Getzlaf got hit square in the face with a shot by Doan and left the ice immediately. Heaps of blood left behind on the ice. 10 stitches to the forehead later, he did not return to the game. A scary injury, and I hope he's not out for very long.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"We talked about some of the things we thought were grieving them and some of the things they thought were grieving us," Carlyle said. "We felt better today. Obviously the coaching staff makes the final decisions, but it doesn't hurt to get some feedback."

"We have to show that when we play well we can play with any team in the league," Hiller said. "Our problem is we haven't shown that every night."

"We can't do that," Carlyle said of the two-man advantages. "Those are things where we're very fortunate to get out of here with two points."

GAME NOTES:
Phoenix had one shot on their second, 37-second two-man advantage. The crowd also might have been boosted by a $1 beer promotion. Ryan Getzlaf took a puck to the face 4:31 into the second period and bled profusely before he was helped to the dressing room. Ducks personnel said Getzlaf had a laceration above the eye and was feeling better by the third period, but he didn't return. He will be evaluated Wednesday morning.

OPINION:
The first half of the game looked like it would be more of the same...the other team getting the right bounces, and pulling a fast one on the Ducks. The second half of the game, after the Ducks went down 3-1, Bobby Ryan said "not so fast". With his 2nd career hat trick, Bobby Ryan helped propel the Ducks into the lead. McMillan with his first career NHL goal also wanted to pitch in to the rally. So did Corey Perry.

I love these kind of "come from behind" type wins, but it also leaves me shaking my head wondering "where was this team last game?" I guess they felt as fed up as the fans did with the losing and decided to do something about it. The thing I think they finally figured out is that it was time to get back to basics to get the win. No fancy passes, no dipsy-doodles-- just crash the net, shoot the puck, and goals will come.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"I'm just happy to join the club," Ryan said. (About his goal being the 11th hat trick scored in Jobing.com arena this season)

"I would say our penalty killing bailed us out," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said, "and then our big guys that get paid all the money scored some goals for us."

"It came right to me," [Ryan] said. "They weren't sure who the first guy was supposed to be back and gave me a little room, so I just tried to do what I know how to do and that's shoot. I'll take the lucky ones, that's for sure." (on his break away goal)

Ducks Win!!!! 3-2 in SO!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME DAY QUOTES:
"I think it's best not to go down having a move in your mind because then if he doesn't react well, you're in trouble," Ryan said, "so I just freelanced it."

"We were sure lucky about those two points," goalie Jonas Hiller said. "It wasn't pretty, but those are the kinds of things we need right now, just find a way to win."

"Every missed check or every bounce of the puck can have a huge effect on the outcome," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said. "That's what's so difficult for everybody involved in the game when you're in the stretch and you're in the situation we're in."

GAME DAY NOTES: "Anaheim is 7-8-0 in the second half of back-to-back nights. ... Miller is in his third stint with Anaheim after spending most of the season in the minors. ... Anaheim's Rob Niedermayer played in his 1,000th NHL game. He and teammate Scott Niedermayer are the fourth pair of brothers in league history to reach 1,000 games played apiece."

Game 50: Ducks @ Coyotes 1.27.09

Ducks WIN 7 - 3!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME DAY QUOTES:
“You watch a lot of other teams that are having success, and they’re getting those goals and getting those bounces,” said Corey Perry “We’ve talked about it right from Day One in training camp — our middle-lane drive and stop at the net and crash the net. That’s how we have to play. We have to get those ugly goals to be successful.”

Randy Carlyle added, "You look at the goals we scored. They were all from the crease in. They were goals off faceoffs, off deflections and from jamming the crease. Those are the ugly areas to score goals from."

Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky said it best: "The reality is we played against a team that knows the situation, knows where they're at and understands where they are in the standings. They basically wanted to win the game more than we did."

Ducks Win 2 - 1!!

PERIOD 1: 1 - 0
PERIOD 2: 1 - 0
PERIOD 3: 2 - 1

Take a look at the Ducks scratches for the night:
10 R COREY PERRY
15 C RYAN GETZLAF
25 D CHRIS PRONGER ©
33 D JOE DIPENTA
35 G JEAN-SEBASTIEN GIGUERE

That's a very depleted lineup with those players out. That's an all-star worthy line up NOT playing. And we won, because we still had all-star Teemu Selanne in the game. :D And again for the second night in a row, Hiller amazed me. He's just... he'll be an amazing goalie in the future. This was a Ducks team dealing with a big chunk of adversity and still came out with the win, though it wasn't against a playoff team, it was against Bryz (remember him, aww) who has had our number since we waived him... so it's good to see us finally beat him. Selanne was the only Duck tonight with goals. 2 of them, reaching his 550th goal mark. :) Now they can come home, rest up a little bit, and face the Kings on Wednesday.

GAME DAY QUOTES:

"I wanted to shoot quick to make sure (goalie Ilya Bryzgalov) was not expecting the shot," Selanne said of the winning goal. "He is big and covers a great deal of the net, so I wanted to shoot quickly."

"We just ask our goalie to give us a chance to win," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "Jonas gave us a strong effort, but to have success, people have to step up and meet the challenge."

"Every loss hurts just as much right now," Coyotes captain Shane Doan said. "It's really frustrating. We have lost five straight now, and at this time of the season, that's unacceptable."

"Sometimes it's easier when you get many shots," Hiller said. "That keeps your mind sharp and you stay in the game. It's easy to play when you're comfortable, and right now, I'm quite comfortable."

"Our guys played their hearts out in a 2-1 game," he said. "I was very proud of our effort and thought we played a real solid hockey game." -- Wayne Gretzky, Phoenix Head Coach

Ducks Lose 3 - 2 in SO.

WHEN: 1 - 0
WHERE: 2 - 1
TIME: 2 - 2
TV: 2 - 2
RADIO: 2 - 3

This game was crap... not ONLY did they blow a 2 goal lead... but the shoot out line up they had chosen was just.... WHAT? Apparently the assistant coach picked the line up for that but RC had to ok it, and WHAT? It made them look like they gave up...Bertuzzi (miss) Marchant (big miss didn't even get to shoot it because he lost control) Pronger (miss). Things like that, that just make you go HUH?? I know.. Bryz had us solved twice before in the shoot out so maybe you should mix it up a bit... but common... go with Bobby Ryan, maybe Kunitz, and Selanne... we have Selanne now, USE HIM. Uhk. What a sad game to see. Blow a two goal lead. I'll be my optimistic self though and say "hey, at least we got a point!" :)

GAME DAY QUOTES:

"We didn't match their desperation," Giguere said after a 3-2, shootout loss to the Coyotes on Tuesday night. "They wanted it more than we did. This was about desperation, and we did not respond." -- J.S. Giguere

"This was a huge game and we needed to find a way to get two points," captain Shane Doan said. "When we were down, everyone on the bench was relaxed. We knew how important this game was to us and had to somehow get back in the game." -- Phoenix Captain, Shane Doan

"We didn't accomplish what we wanted," he said. "Sure, we picked up a point, but also lost a point. On the road, you get what you can, but the puck did not bounce our way." -- Head Coach, Randy Carlyle

DUCKS LOSE 2 - 3 IN SHOOT OUT

PERIOD 1: 1 - 0

PERIOD 2: 2 - 2

PERIOD 3: 2 - 2

OT: 2 - 2

SO: 2 - 3

Suckered by the shootout again. Shouldn't have even gone to the shootout.. I don't know. Phoenix is not a team to toy around with anymore, they're turning into an actual threat which is kinda disgusting. Bryz after being traded there decided to become good at shootouts, what's the deal? Jiggy I have heard was battling the flu though, dunno if he was still feeling it tonight.. he actually didn't look bad until the shootout. He stood on his head for the 3rd period practically.. ah well. The advantage is at least we got a point. It's not 2, but it's not 0 either. It's 1. :P

PERIOD 1: 1 - 0

PERIOD 2: 3 - 0

PERIOD 3: 5 - 2

Nice impressive win tonight. Corey Perry with the Gordie Howe hat trick, and did you see his empty net goal at the end? ALL THE WAY from behind OUR goal line. SWEET GOAL! Watch a replay of it if you missed it... beautiful goal.

Schneider is making his name known on the Ducks as well. He had a great night and impressed Ducks fans.

Great game tonight, I'm very happy with the way they played.
