Game 18: Ducks vs. Stars 11.12.10

OPINION:
Don't look now, but that's a 6 GAME WIN STREAK we're looking at. Always a team for the dramatics, it came down to the wire (Selanne said they like to keep it interesting). Bobby Ryan sealed the win with an empty netter, but in the very last minutes Dallas came on very strong and it could have easily been tied and gone to overtime. Thank goodness Bobby found the empty net!

The Ducks are now 7-1-1 at home and go on a 3 game road swing visiting Chicago (the defending Stanley Cup Champions), a little how do you do? in Dallas, and then up to Minnesota, before returning home a week from now to play Columbus. I'd just like to thank the schedule makers for making that retarded. It'd make more sense to hit Minnesota after Chicago and then go to Texas, but I'm just sayin'. They had to throw that loop in there. Pfft. I'm not a fan of the Ducks on the road, and their record out on the open highway can tell you why. I don't even want to post it. I'll take the win streak continuing, thank you very much. At least for this road trip, they'll go with confidence and momentum.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"It was a huge night," Ryan said. "Tonight we didn’t give them a whole lot of momentum swings, which we’ve done in the past few games. The guys played hard in front of Hillsy [Jonas Hiller, who had 27 saves]. He earned the win tonight for us."

"When Getzy buried that goal, it was huge," Ryan said, then alluded to the line of him, Ryan and Corey Perry. "The three of us fought the puck a little bit early in the game, so it was nice to get rewarded for sticking with it. We’ve figured each other out and we’re rolling right now. It’s evident. It just needs to stick."

"I just tried to stay on my feet as long as possible," Hiller said (about facing the penalty shot). "He was coming in pretty slow. I thought he was going to deke. He made a good move and I was able to move my leg out. I felt pretty comfortable."

"Any time you can get out and have the number of shots that we had in the first period, we were trying to take advantage," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "We knew they played a tough game last night. These are opportunities that you get that you have to take advantage of."

Game 81: Ducks vs. Stars 4.10.09

Ducks WIN 4-3 in SO, Clinch a Playoff Spot!!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME DAY QUOTES:
"We’ve come together to push us into the playoffs and give us an opportunity to see what we can do there," said Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer. "It’s always nice to have that opportunity. We’ve had more consistency and playing the way we need to."

"Overall, I think I felt alright," Beauchemin said. "I got the puck early on a couple of breakouts, offensive zone faceoffs and all that stuff. I didn’t run out of breath. Conditioning-wise, I felt actually almost better than ever. The knee had no problems. I hit a couple of guys. I didn’t feel a thing tonight. That is good news."

"We’re in," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "You work all year. You start in September with your group and you have visions of playing in the playoffs. It’s a marathon that we just are about to complete with one more game in Phoenix. It again is an important game for us from a standpoint of improving our position. It’s amazing that all of these games have had a certain degree of importance. Tomorrow is no different."

Game 66: Ducks vs. Stars 3.6.09

Ducks Lose 3-2

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME DAY QUOTES:
"With the team losing guys that they won a Stanley Cup with, I think the chemistry in the room is going to take awhile to adjust," said Christensen, who came over in a trade with Atlanta. "Some of the guys just don’t know the new guys here, like me. It might just take a couple of games for everything to feel somewhat normal again. I thought we played well. We put a lot of shots on goal. Turco stood on his head."

"Everybody is going to beat each other and it’s going to be real tough," Giguere said. "Obviously, we want to get the points here at home. It’s not about the other team right now, it’s about us trying to win games and trying to put ourselves in a good situation. It’s up to us."

"It was just a bad break," Christensen said. "I was nervous for sure. You try to make a good first impression and on the first shift, you take a penalty and they score. It’s not the best feeling."

"I think with the number of chances that we did create and the pucks we directed at the net, [Turco] made some big stops," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "Some stops [Turco] didn’t even see. But that is when things are going your way as a goalie and things are hitting you. You have to take your hat off to him. [Turco] battled and had made the stops for [the Stars'] hockey club."

Ducks Win 3 -2 in SO!!!

PERIOD 1: 1 - 0
PERIOD 2: 2 - 1
PERIOD 3: 2 - 2
OT:2 -2
SO: 3 - 2

This was a pretty good game! The first period was the best period that the Ducks played, they dominated that period with 10 shots on goal to 3. Then the Stars came out in the 2nd probably saying "not so fast"... and they put the pressure on. They ended up in the shootout where Teemu and Kunitz produce 2 goals which was enough to win the shootout since Jiggy only let in 1. :) Very good game, and it was nice to have both Getzy and Giguere back in the lineup. They have been missed.

GAME DAY QUOTES:

"We’ve certainly had our struggles against them this year," Schneider said about the Stars. "The last couple of games we’ve reversed their fortunes. It’s been a great back and forth series. They are one of the elite teams in the Western Conference. If we do end up playing them, it’s going to be a battle. If we can get home ice, that’s a big bonus for us. We put ourselves in a positive that we might be able to."

"I felt good. I felt strong," Getzlaf said. "Everything went as planned. It was a big win for us, as well as me getting back in there and feeling comfortable again."

Said Schneider of Getzlaf: "You can’t say enough about what he’s done for this club this year, especially as a 22-year-old. "It’s just amazing. He comes back off an injury and gets a good contribution again tonight. He just creates time and space out there and uses his body. He’s going to be an elite player for years and years here."

"It’s a hockey game that obviously was tight," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "We feel fortunate enough to get the extra point in a shootout. Now it’s down to two. The bottom line is we have two more games next weekend. We’ve got a week to prepare. We’ll start our preparation on Tuesday and see where that takes us."

Ducks Lose 4 - 2

PERIOD 1: 1 - 1
PERIOD 2: 1 - 3
PERIOD 3: 2 - 4

I feel like I say this a lot... when these two teams play you get the feeling they don't like eachother. LOL. I think every team hates us... hmmm, at least every team that understands we're a threat to them. We may not win them all but we're still a threat. So... Let's start with Teemu's return. He got 2 nice standing ovations. 1 when they displayed him on the jumbotron, when he realized we were cheering for him he smiled that famous Teemu smile. Then when they displayed him again on the jumbotron after playing the clip of his first goal of the season (in COL) and at the bottom said "Welcome Back Teemu". That was great. Too bad they couldn't win to top it off. And Teemu didn't get that point to pass...the weasle in all time points scoring. He'll get it, but it wasn't tonight. Kunitz was the man of the night for the ducks with both goals for us, and had a sweet fight in the first that resulted in an instigator penalty, a ten minute misconduct, and the 5 for fighting. Giguere did ok for himself. Dallas had TWO 5 on 3's which was our ultimate demise. Dumb penalties at the WORST times. Uhk. There were SO many "empty net" chances for us too... Teemu, Beauch, and Getz all had a chance for those. Just wasn't in the cards for us tonight. Which sucks, because well we really needed this win...Dallas now owns us at 5 out of 6 games going to them. They play again sunday, and since it's only 1 game, not considered a losing streak. :) So we're good.

And not sure if anyone noticed or not, but the team store has some special shirts for sale. They are like the jersey t-shirts with the players name and number on the back... the shirt has 8 on the back, but instead of TEEMU it says "HE'S BACK" across the top. I got one. :)

DUCKS WIN 4 - 2!

PERIOD 1: 1 - 1

PERIOD 2: 3 - 2

PERIOD 3: 4 - 2

This was a huge game, and the Stars don't have our number anymore. The power of Niedermayer was out there tonight. He got a goal (a VERY beautiful goal), and he got an assist. He prevented some goals against us too. Just watching him, you have to be so glad he is back. He's getting in to top form now. Bertuzzi, how about that guy? He's got 3 goals in 3 games now. Way to go Big Bert!! Not to forget mentioning Getzlaf for his goal. I am beyond glad that they pulled this game off... they deserved this win and what a big win it was. We're now behind SJ by 1 point for 1st place. SJ lost tonight too, so YAY!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket vs. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

PERIOD 1: 1 - 0

PERIOD 2: 4 - 0

PERIOD 3: 5 - 0 hook, line, and sinker.

Blanked AGAIN. They appeared as though they just quit playing and gave up... IN THE SECOND PERIOD. That means 2 periods full of... crappy playing. When it was 1-0 I thought to myself: "wow they are so lucky it's not worse than this".... oh.. it got worse. And like the Columbus game way back when, I'd just rather NOT talk about it. The score speaks for itself.
