Game 5: Ducks vs. Thrashers 10.15.10

OPINION:
This game started out very promising. The Ducks controlled most of the game, and looked sharp. Then, they set out to prove how dangerous the 2 goal lead is. Doing their signature move of trying to protect the lead, they let it go. As disappointing as that was. What looked like a sure 2 points, dwindled to being happy they at least got 1 out of the deal.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"Any time you lose in your own building, it’s disappointing, especially when you have the lead going into the third," said Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf. "We worked pretty hard all game long. We needed to close it out of the end and we didn’t."

"We’re upset with losing the point tonight," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "That is probably as emotional as I have been in losing a shootout because there were mental mistakes that we made that cost us the point, not their effort. They worked and tried. Some nights shootouts go for you, some nights they don’t."

"We just need to keep pushing," Getzlaf said. "We have a big game coming up on Sunday and we know it. We’ll come to work tomorrow like professionals and get ready."

GAME DAY QUOTES:
"Everything that you don’t want to happen happened," said Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer. "We made our share of mistakes and they scored their share of goals. I guess those nights do happen once in awhile. Unfortunately, we can’t afford right now. That is the worst part of it."

"We shot ourselves in the foot," said Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf. "We have to regroup now and go back to work. Nothing really needs to be said. Everybody knows what went on. We got embarrassed in our own building tonight."

"That last goal was a pretty good summation of the night," Niedermayer said. "It’s a pretty frustrating night to be a part of. I know I made my share of mistakes out there. That is where it has to start is I have to be better and we’ll go from here."

"Every bounce ended up on their stick and they were shooting the puck," Getzlaf said. "We are a team that prides ourselves on not giving up so many shots. In the first period, it’s tough when you take that many penalties to get the momentum. We didn’t respond the way we needed to."
