Game 14: Ducks @ Red Wings 11.5.11

OPINION:
There's not much left to be said. The ending of a less than thrilling 7 game road trip, in an arena where we have an unsightly 3-25-7 record at wont exactly keep anyones hopes up for the chance of winning in the cursed Joe Louis Arena. For this game, Teemu of all saints, found himself 22 penalty minutes in this building, Corey Perry was apparently the sinner when it came to goaltender interference even though he wasn't near the paint, but Alligator (I call him that on purpose) can skate right through Hillers paint, knock his beautiful Movember mask off, and nothing gets called. So face it, nothing ever exactly goes right in that god foresaking building and no fan should expect great games to come from that building, That doesn't stop us from WANTING a win from there. It just doesn't happen. This game was doomed as long as it's been scheduled to be at the Joe.

Whatever the reason, just come home boys. The real fans are here, waiting for you. If you want them, the wins will come, and this losing streak too, shall pass. It's a long season.

Game 14: Ducks vs. Penguins 11.5.10

OPINION:
What a way to win! There's not much I can say about this one, they went out there and basically owned the show for the night. The 3rd the Pens tried their damnedest to force the comeback, but to no avail. I loved this game. If you missed this game, you oughta be kicking yourself in the butt. What a geat, high energy, passion driven game tonight. Loved every minute.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"Hopefully it’s a stepping stone and we can get some confidence," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "We’ll feel a lot better about ourselves tomorrow morning again. That is what we’re trying to do, something to build on here. We want this building specifically to be a tough place to come into and play. We’ve accomplished that in these last two games."

"We were overdue," Ryan said of that second period. "We had some chances in the first that didn’t quite find the net the way we wanted them to. When you stick with the basics, they are going to come back around for you. We did that in the second."

"That was a big goal for our line and the confidence for us," Koivu said. "We’ve been having some great chances in the last four, five games. We’re trying to capitalize on those chances. It’s hopefully the start of something good."

"The first and the second period were really strong for us and they pretty much took it to us in the third period," Koivu said. "The great thing is we got that win and two points that were big for us."

OPINION:
This 4 - 0 shutout of the Nashville Predators was well deserved. Jonas Hiller made it known early on that he was on his game and that nothing would be getting by him. I don't know if any of you have noticed, but when a goalie is going to shutout a team there seems to be a certain aura in the building. A confidence that you as a fan can feel. Selanne (2), Marchant (1), and Ryan (1) were the goal scorers for the night. The first two periods only saw a lone goal from Selanne, but the third period they threw in 3 bombs that would make the final score 4-0. Now we all sit here and cross our fingers that they can use that as the starting point to string together some more wins for an actual winning streak, which they have yet to see this season. Up next is the Phoenix Coyotes which they played just 3 games ago (a week ago exactly tomorrow, when they play) that resulted in a Wisniewski 2-game suspension for his hit on Doan. Wiz will be returning for this game, it could get interesting folks!

POST GAME QUOTES:
"We played pretty solid defensively," Hiller said. "I gave up a couple of rebounds, but our defensemen were doing a great job tonight clearing those. I’m definitely happy about the win. If we play the way we did tonight, we’ll always have a chance to win."

"We have to start building the confidence from little things," Selanne said. "This team can play way better than we did. The good thing is we found a way to win the game and that is all that really matters. Jonas gave us a chance to win and the special teams were good."

"We have had some really good games and so many good chances, but the puck has not gone in," Selanne said of his play with Koivu. "It’s a little frustrating. We have been playing well, but have not been rewarded. I really hope tonight’s game is going to give us the confidence boost we need."

"It was a nip and tuck game until the third period," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "We found a way to score some goals in third period to give us some breathing room."

"We knew we had to do something," Hiller said of Anaheim's penalty kill. "We were struggling a little on it in the beginning of the year. We worked hard at it in practice. Everybody was working hard. We just have to keep it up and do the same job the next game."

"From our standpoint, we did a lot of good things in the hockey game," said Carlyle. "The penalty killing came up large. When you’re penalty killing is shutting the other team’s power play out, usually your goaltender has a good part of the responsibility for that. Jonas stood in there and made some big stops for us at key times."

"I knew the guy was coming out of the box so I shot it, luckily it went off the crossbar and in," said Pronger. "We did enough to win, but that's not good enough for this group."

"On the road it might not be perfect, but the important thing is we got two points," said Giguere. "Every time we played the Kings so far in either exhibition or regular season, they've given us a run for our money."
