Games 59 - 62 Catch Up Post

Since ALL these games resulted in the L (and some pretty bad L's at that) I'm not going to waste my time with the fancy game day graphics or put myself through having to re-live them with the post game updates. I'll just post the final scores and say a 5 game losing streak is unacceptable right now. We'll get back on track tonight against Colorado.

Game 3: Ducks @ Blues 10.11.10

OPINION:
My opinion is likely along the same lines as your opinion. I'm just going to point out the obvious and move on with life:
A. We need defense, badly. An 18 year old is outshining everyone else. Cam Fowler, you're doing great bud. I wish the rest of the team was on board with you.

B. We also appear to need offense. On paper, you wouldn't think that at all. On ice, we've got 2 goals. 2 goals from Saku Koivu. The top line that has 3 players combining for just above $15 million in payroll, yeah that top line isn't doing a thing. Thank you Saku for at least trying.

C. Somehow we've got a great penalty kill. That was 100% today, and if you saw the game, you know that's no small feat. But it managed to be at 100%. Even with that awesomeness, there were still 5 goals not in our favor. Hiller got pulled after 4. He has a sound 4.0 GAA. And a 4.0 only looks good if it's your GPA. I'm not saying all of them are Hiller's fault, but he does need to be better.

D. Maybe it's time for a new coach. I'll give RC a few more games before I jump on that bandwagon. But I usually end up on it at some point during the season, he just never gets the boot. This year might be his year...to go.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"Obviously, the sun is going to come up tomorrow - we hope," [Carlyle] said. "What you have to do is take a self-analysis of what we can do better. There's lots of areas for us to improve in as a team."

"It's only three games," Perry said. "There's 79 more to go. But it's tough to start the season 0-3. "They had 50-some shots today, too, and that doesn't help. The puck's going the other way. We just need to get some of those on our stick and get the garbage goal we need to get us going."

Game 55: Ducks @ Blues

Ducks Lose in Shootout 0 - 1

PERIOD 1: 0 - 0
PERIOD 2: 0 - 0
PERIOD 3: 0 - 0
OVER TIME: 0 - 0
SHOOT OUT: 0 - 1

That's the first time I have had to type out 0's all the way down until the shootout. And in Ducks fashion, we lose in the shootout. Of course, Andy Mac has to score on us... :( I still miss him. We did get 1 point though, which is better than the past 4 games where we've gotten straight 0's. I can't wait for Teemu to be back on the ice, we really need more scoring. I have to give props to Legace though... he was just ridiculous between the pipes. Giguere did well too, until the shootout. :-/

Game 11: Ducks @ Blues

PERIOD 1: 0 - 0

PERIOD 2: 2 - 3

PERIOD 3: 2 - 4

I was unable to watch this on TV but I had my radio in class with me. From the sounds of things, the Ducks are plagued with injuries. Getzlaf is now out, with an "upper body injury" that they never went into detail with on the radio. May might have injured his hand, but he was out playing after the scrap that hurt his hand. Of course, Bertuzzi and Schneider are still out. Rob Niedermayer was a scratch with a groin injury. Oh well, injuries happen. Can't avoid that.

From what I heard on the radio, it sounded like they had their usual slow 1st period. They played a better 2nd period, tallying two goals. But that just wasn't enough. They failed multiple times on power plays, which is a repeated offense by this team. Their power play/special team just isn't working out just right. Of course, there was an almost goal by Pronger, that went under review, and came out that he hit the crossbar. Sucks. That would have been the tieing goal.

A particularly annoying thing tonight to any Ducks fan, is the weasle Paul Kariya got two goals for his new squad. Yuck. His 2nd goal was the empty netter that brought the score to its final 4-2.

So in this 2 game roadie, they come back with 0 points. Playing Phoenix on Thursday at home. Which I have to miss out on because of class, but again I'll have my radio.
