Game 20: Ducks @ Stars 11.16.10

OPINION:
Just like all good "undefeated in regulation" streaks, it had to come to an end sooner or later. Would have preferred "later" but oh well. Time to make a new streak. If the Ducks had buried their chances, the outcome would be different. I counted 4 solid opportunities in the 1st period alone (Selanne, Marchant (breakaway), Carter, and Bobby) all should have had a goal in the 1st. But should, woulda, coulda doesn't win games. Unfortunately.

And I'm not usually one to pick on the refs. It takes special games to get me fired up against the refs. One of those is tonight. I'm not going to go into too much of a rant about it, because we've all heard it before and I hate being the stereotypical Ducks fan whining about the ref, but damn! THREE times the Stars could have been called for too many men, alone. The missed tripping call at the end of the game could have helped too. They were really letting the Stars get away with bloody hell out there in terms of penalties.

On to the next one.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"We had our fair share of chances," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "It wasn't like we were devoid of chances, we came up empty. Even more-so, we had lots of good chances on our power play, too. ... We're just not really sharp offensively. We got to think 'shoot more,' be a little more selfish."

OPINION:
If we cut out the 1st period, this was a solid game for the Ducks. I don't know what the 1st period was, but we'll forget it happened. Whatever was said in the locker room during 1st intermission worked because they came out for the 2nd and 3rd a completely different team than the one that came out in the 1st.

Bobby Ryan netted 2 goals and everyone watching was just waiting for the hat trick. It didn't happen, but we did get to see Parros score on a break away! I think if you saw that mustache darting toward you, you'd let the goal in too. Also, Teemu netted 1 to get his 800th career point as a Duck, and Perry added to the total when Dallas had a little brain fart forgetting to have somebody in the penalty box to serve Robidas' major penalty for a boarding hit he nailed Beleskey with. (Later reported that Beleskey is fine, after he left the ice looking a little more than woozy).

Great game, and the Ducks get to head home for Friday's match against the New Jersey Devils, who have been having the same kind of rough start the Ducks have been dealing with. And a great win to put the heartbreaking loss to the Wings three days ago into the distant memory bank.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"I've met (Hull) many times, and I never imagined I'd score more goals than him," said the 40-year-old Selanne, who also had an assist to give him 801 points with the Ducks. "It's unbelievable, when you look back at your career, the numbers. Good things happen when you play long. When I read my name in the same story with Bobby Hull or somebody else, it's a big compliment. I'm thankful for all these years."

Selanne said he was aware of NHL greats when he was a kid learning the game in Finland. "Automatic, you know those names," Selanne said. "I used to have Guy Lafleur skates."

"It got us started," Ryan said of his first goal. "It's a morale boost. You're sitting around and feeling sorry for yourself, that kind of turns the tide."

"At times he (Ryan) looked like the best player on the ice," Carlyle said. "He was skating and when he does that, he's a dynamic player."

Game 64: Ducks @ Stars 2.28.09

Ducks Win 4-3!!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME DAY QUOTES:
"It's been a long road trip," Selanne said. "It is always great to come back in the third period on the road. Both our team and Dallas, we're way better than what we've played. It's disappointing, but there's still time. Things are in our own hands."

"It was a big game for our team," said goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who stopped 30 shots to win his 200th game for the Ducks. "We'll finish the road trip with at least a .500 record."

"It's been an up-and-down season for me and for the team," Giguere said. "When these things happen, you want to try to bounce back."

Ducks Win 2 - 1!! :D

PERIOD 1: 0 - 1
PERIOD 2: 1 - 1
PERIOD 3: 2 - 1

Holy crap what a great nail biting game!! :D Pulled out a win in regulation with less than 2 minutes to go in the 3rd period, freaking sweet!! The adrenaline is still pumping in my body but wow what a game! There was some pretty bad penalty calls on both sides but I'm going to point out that the one against Rob Niedermayer for 4 minutes was absolutely terrible. Scott Niedermayer was a-freakin-mazing in this game, he controlled the whole thing. He even got the 1st goal for the Ducks with what he made look very easy. He played a huge portion of the game and didn't even look tired, there's not enough good things to say about Scott Niedermayer... he's one of the best.

GAME DAY QUOTES:

"That was a goal scorer's goal," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "I think it surprised Turco that he shot it from that position. That's what goal scorers do."

"I didn't have a lot of time," Bertuzzi said. "I just wanted to get it there as fast as possible."

"It's a good rivalry (with Dallas)," Bertuzzi said. "These are fun games to play going into the playoffs. It's a big win for us.

"It was a bad angle that I got a piece of but it went in," Turco said. "It's one I'd like to have back but I can't. It was a save that needed to be made."

"I'm in a pretty bad mood right now," Morrow said. "I don't like to see a game decided like that. It's frustrating. After all the stuff (the referees) let go, that was kind of middle-of-the-road. With the exception of (Scott) Niedermayer, you could call a penalty on their defense on every shift."

"It's important with the way things have been going this year," Giguere said. "It was good we beat them here. Most likely we're going to see them in the playoffs. It's going to be a good battle."

"We were on our heels early and were fortunate to get a win on the road," Bertuzzi said.

Ducks Lose 5 - 2 :(

PERIOD 1: 0 - 1
PERIOD 2: 0 - 1
PERIOD 3: 2 - 5

The Ducks just didn't play as if they wanted the win... not until it was too late anyway. Ugh what a frustrating loss this is. However, I would take this loss if it means a win against Detroit. :) That's what I want. Our undefeated in January (in regulation) streak has come to an end. But Getz's point streak has been extended to 14 games. Only Teemu Selanne has a longer streak than him. How about that "goal" (I cringe calling it that) that Dallas got that changed the whole game. Clearly the puck was kicked in, and they rule it a goal. It was so distinct of a kick that everyone in my house thought it'd be a no-goal. The announcers on TV said it was kicked in. However, it was ruled a goal, and it just changed the whole game. BAD CALL... I am not being biased when I say that either, it was a terrible call. Should have been no goal. On to Detroit, the team I'd rather see us beat. :P

PERIOD 1: 1 - 0

PERIOD 2: 1 - 0

PERIOD 3: 1 - 2

This is a very irritating loss because it shouldn't have happened. I'm not gonna sit here pointing fingers because that's lame, but this loss shouldn't have happened. Stars ended up with a 5-on-3 in the 3rd and capitalized on it twice which put them in the lead. There were MANY chances by us to tie up the game and nothing.. Poo.

With that being said, I think I remember we lost last year right before thanksgiving, and won the game after thanksgiving. So maybe it'll be the same way this year. So I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving (and for those in Canada who already had Thanksgiving... hope you have a good day tomorrow?! LOL)

Put the 10 minute rule the Ducks have into play tonight. Be as pissed off as you want about the loss for 10 minutes after the game ends, and then move on and look toward the next game! :) It's only 2 days away.
