Game 29: Ducks vs. Coyotes 12.5.10

OPINION:
Two shutouts in a row is downright embarrassing. Embarrassing to the team, and embarrassing to the fans. In the Ducks defense, going up against Howard (Det) and Bryzgalov (Phx) is nothing to sneeze at. However, being shutout back-to-back is unacceptable. That's really all there is to say about these past two games. I hope Edmonton is ready because I have a feeling the proverbial ketchup bottle is ready to BURST. (Or maybe I just hope it is, same difference, right?)

On a brighter note, Joffrey Lupul made his return to the hockey scene tonight, sporting the number 19 when he used 14 last season. Welcome back, Lupes! It's been a year since he's last played a game when he went out with his back spasms, and then the surgery, and then the infection. You all know the story. It doesn't matter who the hockey player is, it's always good to see them return from such a scary injury like that.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"It’s frustrating when you’re out there trying to work as hard as you can and things aren’t happening," said Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf. "It’s not a matter of putting the puck in. It’s a matter of all those other little things that we’re not doing properly. We have to reach back here and start doing those again."

"It seems like we don’t really have a starting point in any of the games, specifically the last two," said coach Randy Carlyle. "We started both of them, the first 10-12 minutes we were playing defensive zone coverage and not on the attack. It seems like it takes 10 minutes for us to get warmed up and that is not acceptable."

"It seemed the frustration level got us and we couldn’t execute," Carlyle said. "It seemed liked everywhere we turned, there was a white sweater tonight."

"It was enjoyable just being back around the guys," said Lupul, who switched to uniform number 19 after wearing 14 last season. "We’re here to win games. I’m glad to have the first one out of the way. Hopefully now, I can just join the team and go about business as usual. I felt good before the game. I was pretty excited. Once the game got going, it was just hockey again. If I had any nerves, they were gone by the first or second shift. It was not the result we wanted. It’s frustrating. I can play better and everyone can play better."

OPINION:
This was a good game. High energy, do what it takes to win, win. On that note, I'd like to point out Shane Doan. I'll refrain from calling him the names I'd like to call him here and keep it PG at PUNK. Minutes after Cam Fowler scored his first NHL goal, he was a goal line away (literally, it landed right on the goal line) from scoring his second. And that's when Shane thought it'd be a good idea to pummel the kid face first into the boards. Cam left the game and never returned, with a broken nose, two black eyes, and a neck strain. Thanks Shane.

Not too far along into the game after that happened, Shane attacked again. This time he decided a blindside hit to Dan Sexton would be ok. Well news flash, Shane. That's the exact play the NHL said it would be cracking down on this season, and you sir get to sit out for 3 games. Don't like it? Tough. You did it. You're extremely lucky Sexton wasn't injured with that reckless play of yours.

In spite of Shane Doan, the Ducks pulled off the win, 3 to 2. Not without trying to show their fans, once again, that the 2 goal lead is dangerous. That one is for you, Cam. Get well soon, we need you!

POST GAME QUOTES:
"Bobby made a great play in the defensive zone," Perry said. "He battled for the puck and made a great play to get it to Getzy. The two of us were just trying to get to the net as fast as we could. Getzy found a way to get it through and I got a stick on it."

"We did a lot of good things in the game to give ourselves a two-goal lead, but we can’t slip in the third period like that," said coach Randy Carlyle. "I don’t have cuticles left, so that is the way it went. It got to a hairy point there. The bottom line is we won the hockey game."

"If you just check my stats from previous years, I haven’t been doing that too much," said Lydman of his first career goal streak. "It’s nice to put a couple in there. Especially when we win, it feels so much better."

"It was huge to get back in the win column and have that feeling going on the road," Perry said. "We know we can win in crucial times. We showed it tonight. We found a way to win. That is how we have to play."

Game 72: Ducks vs. Coyotes 3.22.09

Ducks Win 6 - 2!!!!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME DAY QUOTES:
"The power play has been effective at times for us and ineffective at times," said Ryan Getzlaf, who had two big power play goals in the third. "This was one of those games that we needed it big time and we were able to deliver."

Added coach Randy Carlyle, "When your power play delivers as it did tonight and then your penalty killing, it definitely was the difference in the hockey game. We have to try to build on more nights like this. It will continue to get tougher as we go into the final stretch here of 10 games in the season. They are more important points than they have ever been for our hockey club."

"We’re in desperate hockey right now," Getzlaf said. "Every night is a playoff game for us now. We got a huge game coming up here against Nashville. It’s nice to see we’re recognizing that and the situation we’re in. We just need to continue to play the way we are."

Game 82: Ducks vs. Coyotes

Ducks Win 3 - 2 in SO!!!

PERIOD 1: 0 - 0
PERIOD 2: 0 - 1
PERIOD 3: 2 - 2
OT: 2 - 2
SO: 3 - 2

Ok this was a REALLY boring game up until about the last 10 minutes, where the Ducks decided "ok we'll play, why not?" And ultimately came back from a 2-0 deficit in the 3rd to WIN in the shootout... whew. It was a crazy time but wow did it rev up the fans and made me real excited for playoff atmosphere inside the pond once again!! :D So that pretty much sums up the game as easy as it sounds...

Game 23: Ducks vs. Coyotes

Period 1: 1 - 1

Period 2: 2 - 2

Period 3: 3 - 3 (dang nabbit)

OT: 3 - 3

S/O: 3 - 4

Penalties at the very end of a game are no bueno. The Penalty Pronger took however, can be described as a good penalty because it prevented (though I should only say delayed) a goal. But then of course they score on the power play so it goes into OT. Then a shootout, which I didn't want because it wasn't Giguere in our net, and Bryz was in the other net! Oy vey.

The plus side of tonight is, 1 point even though we lost.. and I won the trivia challenge. *does the cabbage patch dance*

Write this one off as the 3rd loss to Phoenix this year... umm what? That SO doesn't sound right, but it's true. Phoenix IS playing a lot better this year than in years past but Carlyle still puts in the backup against them when a starting goalie should be in. Not a bash on Hiller though, he played a pretty decent game and faced more shots on net than Bryz did. I just think Jiggy would be a better fit between the pipes against Phoenix.

PERIOD 1: 1 - 1

PERIOD 2: 3 - 4

PERIOD 3: 5 - 5

OT: 5 - 6

I dunno what to say about this one. We played... well enough to win. Phoenix being one tied for last place in the NHL should have been a breeze for the Ducks, but you know what they say. "Any Team Can Beat Any Team On Any Given Night."

I do have to say though, Schneider just keeps on impressing me and I am SO glad he is on our team.

This is a hard loss to take, but the bright point is.. well we did get a point. So it's not a total loss, but a loss is a loss. LOL I just contradicted myself there, but you should know what I mean.

Game 12: Ducks vs. Coyotes

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket vs. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

PERIOD 1: 0 - 0

PERIOD 2: 0 - 1

PERIOD 3: 0 - 1

What a craptacular game. Our power play is simply non-existant. I don't even know what to say about this game. They at least showed some effort, in spite of having 4 major players out with injuries. Hmm. I don't know.

Bryz was in net tonight, allowing Giguere a rest. Don't know why Randy went with Bryz but it's usually because the 2nd goalie usually takes a start against weaker teams. Of course, we were a pretty weak team tonight ourselves. Oh well.

Well, I am hoping for a return from all 4 before the game against Edmonton. (Not that it's gonna happen, but one can hope). Wouldn't it be nice to have Schneider (finally), Bertuzzi, Getzlaf, and Niedermayer back in the lineup for the Edmonton game? I think so. Not sure how possible that even is though.

Anyway, bad game. This year is really proving..you can't win em all.
Here's to a better game on Sunday!
