Game 19: Ducks vs. Kings 11.17.11

POST GAME QUOTES:
"It felt good that we were back in the hockey game," said Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf. "We battled back as hard as we could and got the big goals when we needed them. Unfortunately, we gave up one at the end that ended up costing us."

"That is the most frustrating part is we tied the game late," said Cogliano. "With three minutes left, we could either try to win the game or go into overtime and get a point. We let that slip away late and gave them the two points."

"It’s always tough playing from behind and we played from behind most of the night," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "We got fired up in the game in the third period. We started to play with that emotion and got skating. It seems we have to get hit over the head to get to that point."

"We have to move on," Cogliano said. "We play Detroit on Sunday. You can’t hang your head."

"We showed a lot of good things tonight," Getzlaf said. "We have to continue to build on those things. I’m confident in this group. If we keep working the way we are, we’ll turn things around."

OPINION:
Well, there goes the win streak, BUT the Ducks remain undefeated in 7 games in regulation. That's something. Like always, I'll take the point, but I really wanted both points. I'm sure you feel the same way. Hiller had some amazing saves that made him look absolutely brilliant and I'm going to say he's why the Ducks got the point. Why the Ducks didn't get both points is because the Ducks played a little too much passing in the overtime period, which they went into with the man advantage (4-on-3). They passed too much, toying with their advantage, and didn't shoot enough. That advantage dwindled and the Hawks took their advantage of surviving that penalty kill. It is what it is. The Ducks now go to Dallas, looking to start a new streak, and keep the unbeaten in regulation streak alive.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"We didn't play the way we really wanted to play," Perry said. "We haven't played that way in a while. Got a point out of it, got to take the positive out of that game. They took it to us in the second and third."

"You never want to give up opportunities on the power play," said Hiller, who needed stitches to close a cut above his left eye after he was struck by a puck during practice Saturday. "I think they have enough great players out there, they make a difference."

"We didn't have very much energy tonight, we looked tired," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "We've played an awful lot of hockey, and we didn't look like we had the crispness, but we still found a way to get a point."

OPINION:
Just wanted to point out one thing before repeating myself that this losing gig is getting old.... Last season through 19 games the Ducks were 9 - 7 - 3 for 21 points. This season they are 6 - 10 - 3 for 15 points. That is only a 6 point difference, which yeah equals 3 games they need to win to be where they were last season.. but it's only a 6 point difference. Also, last season they were one of the teams with the most games played, waiting for every other team to catch up-- this season they are one of the teams with the least games played. Most teams have 3 more games played than us. Win those 3 in hand and hopefully some of those teams start losing a few and we're right in the mix of things. The only real difference from last season and this one is that the Kings actually decided to show up this year and give everyone a run for their money. As a Ducks fan, it hurts to see them doing so well, but the truth is that they are. Will they be able to keep it up though? The skeptic in me says no. Not all season they wont. Will the Ducks stink up the ice all season? The skeptic in me says no.

POST GAME QUOTES:
"I've been on teams like this before and it's never easy," Marchant said. "It's almost seems like there's never light at the end of the tunnel, but there is. There is time, time to turn this around. We have the personnel, we have the talent, we have the work ethic, we have the character in this room to do it."

(Tight lipped again tonight...yeesh...wouldn't want to be in that locker room.)

Ducks Win 2-0!!

-----------------------------------------------------
GAME DAY QUOTES:
"It counts as a team win," Hiller said. "It’s a great feeling for a goalie. I’m definitely happy it finally worked out. I wasn’t that nervous. You just try to concentrate, focus on the next shot and try to stop it. I didn’t have too many worries about what could happen. For sure, you sometimes check the clock and how many minutes are left." [on his first career shutout]

"I think for the first half of the game, we weren’t really with our game," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "After that, we started to get more of the grind game, that cycle game where you put the puck in deep and you work the puck down low. That hasn’t changed for our group. When we do that, where we grind teams, we’re effective. When we don’t do it, we’re one and out and then we play the majority of the game in our end."

"The shot was just one of those things where it popped out," Hedican said. "I let it go and found the net. I think he didn’t expect right away and it snuck in. It was wobbling in. It was kind of a knuckleball, Phil Niekro-style. I’ll take them any way I can get them right now."
